Can We Just Listen to Each Other?
While we may not agree in our thinking, can we just listen to each other and accept each other’s opinions and beliefs as just different views? Can we stop trying to force each other to conform to our beliefs? Do we have to dig our heels in and stay polarized?
It’s a pretty good bet we cannot change people’s minds in this society – people are so polarized in their thinking and won’t listen to alternate information even if they are the facts, even if there is a video or anything proving it. It is aggravating and frustrating to try to reason with a person of different views who won't budge.
Can we just listen to each other? I wish. As soon as a differing view comes up, the claws come up and the wall goes up, rejecting any alternative information. I have never seen such in my life to the extent of what is happening now.
Sometimes we have to agree to disagree and not bring certain topics up. For some people, it’s the only choice that works. For others, try to listen to their view and understand their points (even if you don’t agree), and see if you can present yours – without interjecting comments but each just listening. If there is a seed you can plant, after listening, then try it – see if you can point to a true source, like the actual Constitution and its words (because many, if not most, people have not read it to know or understand what it says).
