Time & Money Saving Tips Below
Save Time:
Look at grocery ads and figure out the stores near you. Find the deals on
food that you want and eat - then map out a round trip covering the various stores you
want the deals from - don't buy the more expensive items while you are out at just one
store. Do look however, since you do know what the sale price is at another store -
sometimes you may be able to beat the sale price. You can also try to bring in the
other stores' ads and see if your grocery will honor their prices - may or may not
work. Don't make separate trips to each store - wastes time and money.
Clean a piece of a room or area each day - spend a few minutes doing a partial cleaning
each day and by the end of the week you'll have it done. Don't get stressed out or overwhelmed with getting
it all done in one shot.
Make a to-do list and check off items on it. If you don't see what you need to deal with,
you can easily forget and sometimes it'll be a bigger project later that will take extra time
to deal with.
Pick up after yourself as you go - don't drop clothes in piles behind you - hang up your coat
and put dirties in the dirty clothes hamper or pile. When looking through the closet, put back
the hanging clothes you decide not to wear. Same for drawers - don't drop things on the floor
instead of putting them back. It will save you a lot of time in cleaning up after yourself. In
the kitchen, wash and put away dishes you used for preparation as you go, when you get a lull
in the cooking process. Get in a habit of not letting things pile up and you'll save a lot of time.
Arrange your shopping and chores into a logical, continuous pattern. Try to map out
your areas to go to and follow a path instead of haplessly driving back and forth. If you
have different directions to go to, then perhaps arrange to do all in one direction one day
and save the other direction for another day.
Save on your Holiday shopping - any Holiday! Take
advantage of the free shipping offers - you'll save time not having to drive to the store, wait in line, re-fill you
gas tank.
Rather than running around looking at stores - shop stores online and see if the items you want are
at a local store - or, as in the case of WalMart, shop online and have the items go to your local WalMart
for easy pick-up.

Make extra at dinnertime - then put the rest away for left-overs to re-heat for another night. Or you can do as one of my
friends does - at the end of the week she puts all the various left-overs into a pot with water, and boils it all into a soup,
which her family looks forward to - it always tastes different.
Make your lunches and plan out your clothes the night before, and set the coffee to go on while you're
showering - less stress in the morning.

Save Money:
Don't Give Up on Your Health. In this economy, when times are tough, it may
seem like you should put off medical attention, buying and eating healthy, going to the
dentist, etc. Don't! The longer you let things go, the worse your health will be to
come back. Call around and ask if there is a doctor or dentist, clinic, or other
that you can go to for cheap or set up a payment plan - make some sort of arrangement
and go. Eating healthy isn't more expensive in reality - you just need to make better
choices. Use whole grain flour instead of white - get it when it's on sale and it's
about the same price as white. Get produce when it's on sale. Buy nuts and grains from
the bulk area - I paid 25 cents for an amount of wheat germ that costs well more than that
in the glass jar. There are bargains if you educate yourself and look for them.
Give Up the Desserts and Sweets. The sweets aren't good for you or anyone -
offer fruits and maybe a couple graham crackers. You'll be healthier and save tons of money
on the sugared and processed foods.
Make Your Own Meals and Eat Fresh. It is actually cheaper to buy fresh
fruits and vegetables at the grocery when they are on sale - than to buy take-out or
frozen dinners, etc. You can make extra amounts and serve as a leftover dinner or
send with someone for lunch.
Reduce, ReUse, Recycle, Repair. Don't buy so much - buy what you need and can actually use.
Reduce - Use things more than once when you can - and find things in your house that you haven't
been using and put them out so you see them and use them. Don't buy extras of things
just because you can't find what you know you have somewhere. Give items to others who might
have more need for them than you do. Donate items to charitable organizations rather than
throwing them out.
Reuse - If you can get multiple uses
out of an item (without being insanitary or gross) then use it more. Use reuseable items
rather than the one-time use (for example, use kitchen towels and wash them at least weekly rather
than using paper towels and throwing them out).
Recycle - When you are throwing out trash, make sure to pull aside the items that can
be recycled - check with your trash/recycling company to see what more items they will now
accept. Ours began accepting all cardboard, and also we no longer have to separate out the
different types of recyclables.
Repair - Instead of buying something new, see what you are trying to replace and instead
you may be able to repair or alter it for more use. Clothes you don't fit into? Get them
altered. Shoes that are broken or worn - take to a cobbler and get them repaired for much
less than you would think. Clothes that are missing a button or need repair? Get them fixed
and get more use from them. Repair furniture and refinish them rather than buying a new set.
The possibilities are endless!
At the store, when you see something that has a problem with it, ask if they will
work with the price for you. A store will often discount a price for an item with something
wrong with it. I have gotten huge discounts on clothes that have a spot or a torn seam, and
then when I take it home I clean it or repair it. I recently saw a set of earrings for $70 reduced
by 40% on sale. The set I wanted was the only one of its kind, but there was a pair missing
on the packet. I asked what they could do on the price and the salesperson gave me an extra
75% off. I paid a little over $10 for the rest of the set (5 instead of the 6 that should have
been on it).
Look for produce which is borderline and ask if you can have it at reduced cost or even
free - them use it that day so it doesn't go down in quality. I have had good luck when
looking for a decent vegetable and not finding it - then the manager will give me a raincheck on a
sale, or bring out a pre-packaged vegetable that is in good condition and even just given it
to me at no cost.
Look through coupons and use them when you need something. Once in awhile you can get
away with using an expired coupon, but not likely in most cases unless it's particularly a
store coupon, but don't expect it. Don't use a coupon just to use a coupon - use it only if it's
an item you regularly buy or wish to try, or ends up giving you an item for free. Ditch the
rest - you'll spend more money buying stuff you don't need and won't use.
Prepare food from scratch if you possibly can. Give up on eating out and on prepared
foods. You can save so much money. If you have a blender - buy some yogurt and fruits when
on sale, and blend them into a great smoothie for just pennies. Add your own extras, like
flax seed, or extra juice, or even some vegetable you can blend in for taste, or
other type of nutritious oils or additives. Make your own coffee, and just sprinkle in
some cocoa, or cinnamon, or nutmeg, etc.
Look for sales on milk and buy for the week at the lowest price. If no sales, you'll
likely get a better price at a member club like Sam's or Costco. Sometimes you can save
at a Walgreen's type store. Pay attention to prices and walk away when it's not economical.
Watch the weekly ads that come out - you can save by comparison shopping, even at the grocery - many times
I find I can save a lot by buying some items at Albertsons, others at King Soopers, a few at Safeway, and a few
more produce items at Sunflower Farmer's Market - all within a 2 mile distance from my home - I just look at the ads
and know where to go for what. Don't get caught up in looking at unneeded items - that's what
the stores count on you buying when they entice you in with a deal. Keep a mindset to buy only what
produce is on sale at the time - I won't buy produce that is over $1.50/pound, for instance,
and lower is better - I just make the week's menues work with what I get.
You can also use this tactic at department stores - but some will match a competitor's sale price - so for stores that
will match, take the competitor ad or coupon in and ask for the lower sale price. Not all stores do this, but there are stores that
do. You just have to ask.
If you see a really good sale at a grocery, for example, of an item you regularly use,
buy a larger amount and freeze the rest for later use. This
works well for blueberries, flour, brocolli, spinach, and more. You can use the frozen produce in baking, cooking,
or in the case of blueberries, pop them in your mouth for a snack while still frozen.
Buy items when on sale, and forget about buying them at full price in the meanwhile for
what items you can. I generally don't buy produce that's over $2/pound, and get it at or below
$1-$1.50/pound as often as possible. So as the sales rotate, so does what I buy and I generally get a
variety of fruits and/or vegetables each week.
Buy generic or store brands at the grocery. Many store brands are actually the same product in different packaging. Look at
ingredients and compare. Sometimes there is even less sugar in a store cereal brand than in the national brand cereal of
same type. If you can save several dollars per a box or two of cereal every week - it adds up! Try the bigger bag of
Honey Nut O's that are store brand - not too much different than Cheerio's, and your child likely won't even notice.
Test out the family with taste prior to buying a large amount (for example - peanut butters
do taste different and may be refused so buy small to try out first).
Save on your Holiday Shopping! Save on
the big sales that are offered, and with free shipping - no sense driving to the store (where you spend gas, parking is a problem,
you may or may not get the deal you went there for, and no lines!).
Buy a year-end car - great deals to be had while dealers try to clean out the old year's models (though still new) to
make room for the new year's cars. The same goes for other types of purchases - clothes, computers and more. Start looking for
year-end or month-end sales! Or consider doing your homework and buy used.

Relief for your back & neck when using a laptop
Laptops are ergonomically awful - the screen and keyboard aren't in the right places to keep yourself
healthy - you have to lean over to work with it, and then there is the problem of heat - which can and does
cause other health problems. One wonderful invention is the LapGenie
- it is an adjustable desk to set your
laptop into the best position it can be. It folds up for easy travel, and has many other uses. Check it out. It's made a huge difference to
me and a lot of people.
