SAFETY AND SECURITY TIPS
Candle Safety
Car & Driving Safety
Appliance Safety - don't leave the house or go to bed when running driers, dishwashers, etc. - they build up high heat
and there are times that something can go wrong. Driers - clean the lint filter before each load - it can collect tremendous
amounts of lint in only one load - and that can build up heat. Don't dry plastics or bath rugs in the drier - these can melt and
can catch fire if the heat is high enough (this includes diaper pants, lunch bags, etc.). Dry rags that have combustibles (gasoline,
motor oil, even cooking oil) by hanging them - not in the drier because the heat build-up can cause spontaneous combustion and
cause fire - not all of the oil will be washed off. Clean out the vent area occasionally because lint can build up in the outgoing
vent path.
To further deter and attack/burglar-proof yourself and your home, use these safety measures:
(and we will add more all the time, so return for more tips - these days there are
even more threats to our being and our society than ever before - even from
within our own people - try to stay safe)
- Teach your children to not talk to strangers, not to help anyone look for
a lost puppy, not to stay there if someone approaches - run to the nearest house
immediately. Keep them in the back yard, not the front yard unless you are with
them. Keep an alarm in their bedrooms - a motion detector on the window or door. We
have a portable personal alarm below which can hang on a window or door and
has a motion detector mode. We don't want to see any more kidnappings.
- Keep your shopping and valuables out of sight in your car - this is the time
of year cars are broken into more often, knowing people are Christmas shopping.
Keep your packages in the trunk, but you probably should not load them very
obviously, because if you drive a short distance to another store, you might
get followed and the opportunity to break into the trunk is open when you
leave the car.
- Hide your garage opener - many thieves look for one that
is visible and then break in, also looking for the registration with your
address. Keep the registration hidden or on your purse or wallet - rather than
in an accessible area of your vehicle. If you find your garage opener is missing,
call police and DO NOT enter your home on your own in case a burglar has
gotten inside.
- When in a parking lot at night, try to check under the car and look inside
quickly to make sure no one is there. Keep your keys in your hand with keys sticking out between
your fingers in case you need a weapon, and get into the car fast, locking the doors quickly as
soon as you are getting in.
- When heating water or other liquids in the microwave, wait a few moments
or at least keep your distance - if you are going to drop in a teabag or something
else like a spoon - because the liquid can explode out at impact. This has
scalded many people.
- Don't open mail that seems suspicious, and wash your hands after handling mail
in the case of cross contamination from a taine in milk bottles into your
freezer to store
=> Don't open, and throw out unknown mail. If it seems suspicious, report it - if you don't know
who sent it, don't open it. If it's written to a generic person or to someone who
isn't at your home, don't open it. If it is heavily sealed or it's lumpy, don't open
it. If you touch any envelopes as described, wash your hands and any other part that
touched the letter
=> Shop at home, on the Internet, this holiday season, if you are concerned. An Isreali friend told me
the suicidal people think nothing of going into a crowded mall wearing a bomb
strapped to their chests. They don't believe in our Christmas, and might feel
there is no better time to get into American emotions than to cause a tragedy
during our holidays
=> You might find comfort in filtering your water right now, and in buying
organic fruits and vegetables (no chemicals used on them). You might want to invest in
a hand filter which can be used in the case of a loss of power, and if you are
concerned about water quality. See our "water" link - this filter is as good as
you can find, which can filter out many particles and poisons - nothing is
foolproof because we haven't all the tests to determine what is out there that
needs to be stopped, and certainly there are mixtures and particles we aren't
even aware of at this point.
=> Don't open your door to just anyone who rings the doorbell - make sure of their
identity
- Leave your porch light on at night - it will light up an intruder.
- Install a motion light that lights up when there is movement in the area.
- Have a neighbor pick up your mail and newspapers while you are away for more than a day.
- Get a barking dog - burglars don't like the attention a dog draws.
- Place your warning decals or signs in clear view to alert a burglar that you have an alarm system.
- Keep your doors locked when you are not in clear view of them.
- Keep front facing windows closed and locked or secured to a partial opening.
- Be wary of people claiming to be repairmen or coming to inspect your property unasked.
- Get a tape of a viscious barking dog that will play when someone comes to the door.
- When walking by yourself, keep your keys in your hand, with a key sticking out between
each finger, so it can be used as a weapon if you need to strike out at someone.
- Never try to be heroic and fight unless it is necessary, or you are trained. You need to
know when the opportunity is good and without practice, you will place yourself in greater
danger.
- If you feel threatened, be as loud as you can, and struggle unless you have a weapon pointed
at you. Make it undesirable to be bothered with. Throw up if you can, to gross out an attacker.
- Do you know many homes get broken into by a burglar lifting the sliding glass door so it goes over
the lock? Then it can be moved out of the way, and entry is easy. Make sure your glass doors
have 2-3 points of locking - a broom handle flat on the bottom may help - test this to be sure.
We use 2 holes drilled through the inside door and into the second door, on the top and bottom of
the other side of the door from the handle (the very middle of the sliding door unit). Then we
put pins into the holes (there are special ones that need a certain type of grabber, or you can
even use a long bolt or other type of sturdy long pin or log).
- Use a deadbolt with 2 sided keyhole if you have a door with a window next
to the door knob. Burglars often break the window and then reach in and unlock the
door. If you have a double key lock next to the window, then a thief can't open the door. Be aware that if
you do put a double key deadbolt in, you need to make sure that there is another exit available very nearby - or keep
a key within easy access - like on a nail just out of reach from anyone who can break out a window (and keep
it out of site). People inside a house on fire need to be able to get out fast and safely.

Home/Business Security System
Protect your home with at least simple precautions. You need to show some sort of deterrent to
keep burglars away. Fact: burglars would rather approach another house which doesn't have a
security system, and even warning decals alert the burglars that your house is not
one they want to bother with. A home alarm system draws too much attention from neighbors and
the burglar knows it is probably calling the police.
Home Security Systems - Your home and your family's safety is very important! Our home
security systems will help defend your family against the threat of home invasion, burglary and forced entry. Make sure you're prepared
to get help in the event of an emergency.

Identity theft is one of the largest growing crimes in the United States and can happen to anyone. Thieves take any identifying information and
get driver's licenses, credit cards, etc. in your name. They get the information from credit cards, receipts, social security numbers, driver's licenses,
information hacked from your computer or stored elsewhere on the Internet, and more. People have had their possessions taken over, their credit records ruined, credit cards run up to the limit,
driver license records ruined, and more problems due to identity theft. The thieves make new documents using your identity - new driver's licenses,
new or reissued credit cards, and such.
Protect your name - see the tips at Identity Theft.
