Fall - harvest what you've grown, and pull out the old plants that won't come up again (like raspberries and strawberries will grow
back). Then rake through, put some new topsoil on the ground and work it in, making it rich again. Protect the plants that need
it over the winter - see the recommended directions for each plant. If there is an early frost - cover your tomatoes and warm
weather plants to protect from the cold - a blanket or tarp does well, but prop it up with sticks so the heavy weight doesn't
snap off the limbs.
Spring - prepare the soil with new dirt, peat moss, plant food. Plant seeds early, right after the recommended day that it
won't frost - for seeds that take a long time to grow, start them inside in the winter and transplant them later. Starter plants
can be planted a little later, once it's definite that the frost is over. Make sure the garden has plenty of
sunshine, water, and occasional plant food. Some plants need rotation and cannot be planted in the same spot each year - figure out
if that is the case with what you are planting.
Finally, enjoy the wonderful flavors of home picked garden foods - they are wonderful! Nothing compares to garden grown
tomoatoes, green beans, raspberries, strawberries, and corn. Nothing at the store tasts as good - and always serve them
right after you pick them for best flavor. For beans, you might want to freeze them - French cut or just snap the ends off and
boil them for about 6-8 minutes, then place in freezer bags, and freeze. That will preserve the wonderful flavor.

Consider planting bulbs - so easy to care for, they multiply, come back year after year, and are beautiful! Trees are
great too - be sure to get trees with long lives, not ones that grow fast and then die. Wrap the bark in winter, and fertilize.
If you want trees that produce fruit, make sure you have a male and female tree in the same area - sweet cherry trees, for
example, need another tree of opposite sex to pollinate with or no fruit will grow.
