Clear Your Card After Use

When you make a debit or credit card purchase - be aware that some systems may not clear your card out before the next person makes his purchase - and you may end up paying for what he buys. This happens at gas stations as well as grocery stores - swipe your card and make your purchase - but if you don't manually hit "clear" your card may not close out and reset. I know this happens - it happened at a grocery store to me - the person in front of me got dinged with my purchase. Once you drive away from a gas station, the next person in line may be able to start pumping gas on your card. Pay attention to all receipts - but you may not be able to prove anything since you don't have the receipt in question. Make sure to hit "clear" on every purchase you make when swiping a card! And look at your credit card or bank accounts often to make sure there are no unknown charges.

Build Up Your Credit

Sometimes you need to build up credit, to show that you paid it off, in order to qualify for a larger loan. Sometimes you can use a student loan as a way to show you are responsible for paying off debts, and sometimes a card being paid off looks better. A student loan is an excellent way to start - small loans, low interest rates, start paying after you graduate.

If you are looking to get a card - you may want to establish or re-establish your credit by running up some purchases and repaying it all back. Sometimes it is difficult to get a card unless you have some established credit. There are cards you can use that do not require an application that digs into your report - and can help you in getting established.

Get a card with a low interest rate, or a zero introductory rate - and pay off the debt before the high rate hits. If it's a 3 month rate, purchase something and make the 2 or 3 payments before you get "dinged" on a 20% rate. If it's a 5% rate for the next year, make payments to bring it to zero by the end of the year, or before. If there is a yearly fee for the card, make sure to cancel it before it gets assessed.

Loan companies often want to see that you have made good on a loan or line of credit before trusting you to pay off on the loan they give to you. You might even be able to try a card that lets you "buy" your balance, and you use the money in the balance - basically like a debit card - but this might help you. Look for a card you can use below

If your rating has been ruined, and your score is low, you can built it up by paying off all debts, by paying back negotiated settlements (the amount that was negotiated off of your settlement - bring it to zero), removing all negative items from your report, and taking on no more debt, no more cards. You may be stuck with a bad rating for 7 years, if you have made certain decisions regarding settlements, but during this time, work toward eliminating all of your debt.

If you need a loan and have bad credit or want an alternative lender, at AWPF you get loans from people. Private Deals.

Credit Card Search

Find a card that meets your needs - one that has a low percentage rate, one that won't change the rate after a certain amount of time, one that will let you use it even if your financial situation is bad. Don't apply for one if you know you cannot be approved. Every time some entity pulls your report (which is part of the application process), it puts another "ding" on your report. Always talk to the card company first and tell them your situation, and what you know is on your credit report - find out if they need to pull up your report or if they can just tell you it's not likely for you to be approved. If you cannot be approved, go no further with them. There are cards that let you put money into the account and use it - essentially a "debit" card, but it may give you the benefit as reporting your payments as paying a credit card - this type of card may be the ideal type for you.

Find the right credit card for you.

Credit Reports and Score

Occasionally get a copy of your credit report - you are entitled to a free one if you do this only occasionally. Each time your credit report is pulled (after one or two), your credit rating can go down a bit, especially if you are in bad credit shape already. You need to keep track that the information in it is accurate and does not have bad information in it. You need to remove erroneous items in the report. Speak with the entities that reported the inaccuracy and ask them to get them stricken off. Find out where you stand by finding out your crdit score - then you'll know how others see you.

Credit Consolidation and Debt Management

You may not be able to negotiate down several card payments - you might only be able to negotiate one at a time, but adding them together may make you promise to pay back monthly more tha you make monthly. If you need help, then look at a consolidation service - they can talk to all your creditors and bring down your monthly payments on each - because they work with the power of many clients - you make one payment to them, and they pay the card bills for the clients. Since they will pay back several client accounts in a month, they can negotiate a lower monthly payment for you.
