The Bible as Truth

By P. Roe, http://www.abetterlife.net

I just got done reading the Bible within 90 days - what a great thing to do! I would recommend this for anyone and everyone. It validates everything for me - the testimony of all the prophets, apostles, people God chose - it all points to Jesus coming to save us. God has always wanted a relationship with His people - and people have messed that up time and time again for eons. Jesus came to give us a direct relationship with God, and in faith we need to follow Him and know He is Lord, trust fuly in Him.

The Gospels Mathew, Mark, Luke and John were written not so long after Jesus died and was risen from the grave. The stories they knew were still fresh. The memories were still fresh. Some knew Jesus personally or people who knew Jesus personally. Certain ones were able to talk to Mary, Jesus' mother and know her part of the story - she wouldn't have told or let be told something that wasn't correct. Luke researched everything Luke 1:5 "Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you" - Luke had access to sources that would verify the information.

The Old Testament was written so we would know what God was doing with His people - trying to get them to have faith and a relationship with God. Over and over the people did wrong and didn't have the faith that would have saved them. The laws and covenant of the Old Testement were set up to protect the people. Once things progressed, some laws were no longer needed, and God proclaimed a new covenant was to come - in the human form of Jesus - who died for your sins - this is told over and over again, in many ways, thoughout the Old Testament - it all comes down to Jesus coming. Jesus states that faith in Him (true faith, not just proclaimed faith) will get us to Heaven. Faith in him will have us do God's will - act as a Christian who follows Jesus. Jesus died for our sins, so we would be forgiven. An important note - our sin can be forgiven, but that doesn't mean we're immune from consequences. The greater sins would have greater consequences on earth. But we're absolved in God's eyes - as long as we believe in Jesus and follow His expectations for us. So we need to repent (turn back from sin) and turn to God.

God, Jesus, Holy Spirit (the Holy Trinity) - is the first and the last, the beginning and end, the Alpha and the Omega - always was, is and is to come. God has been here forever, made everything, and began our history. Jesus will end our history as foretold in Revelation. But to those of us who have faith - Jesus wins, so we win.

Don't Overdo Christmas

By P. Roe, http://www.abetterlife.net

Christmas celebrates Jesus' birth, though it's not His birth that is the significant event. Remember, He was born in a lowly manger and his birth was witnessed by the lowest of the low in society - dirty rugged shepherds, and barn animals. Jesus took on the shepherding role for us, and is also know as "the lamb who was slain."

In any case, there isn't much in the Bible that talks about His birth - because it really wasn't significant other than being Holy in nature - it was what He did for the world that is significant. His ministry, His death on the cross and His coming back to life - these are what are significant. These are what the scriptures tell us about in great detail - the birth wasn't the important part of the story - except to let us know, in no uncertain terms, that this is the Messiah that the Old Testament prophesied about. His ancestry is fully explained to show that He is of the line of David, as foretold - and even His lineage to Adam. Matthew shows the birth story from the perspective of Joseph, Jesus' human father. Luke tells us the wonderful birth narrative that we all know. Both use the birth story to validate the fulfillment of the Messiah prophecy - not to tell us the birth is significant.

Easter is the most important Christian holiday. This is the culmination of all the prophecies, and the story of how Jesus defeats death.

Christmas isn't all about gifts and commerce - it's about a tiny baby who grew up to be the greatest Man on Earth, God's son. Remember that and give from the heart rather than from the wallet. Give to others, give to the poor, give of yourself by volunteering. Give alternative gifts - charity contributions in someone's name. Don't give "stuff" just to give stuff. More junk gets thrown away because people just don't know what to do with it, or hate it. Think of the type of man Jesus was - and honor Him by following His lead and teachings - give to others, love one another.

Our society thrives on collecting more and more stuff - causing waste, greed, selfishness, vanity - take a step away from this and give up on mere stuff - make Christmas more meaningful this year.

I hope everyone has stress-free days at Christmas time. Don't worry about getting everything done - remember this is about Jesus and all the preparations don't need to be in order to celebrate. Take things easy and relax - and take time to enjoy. Simplicity is good...

Be careful of scams. In this economy, and with people so desperate for hope, be ever careful and vigilant of offers in these days. Don't fall victim to "causes" that ask you for money. There are fake ringers, fake "organizations," fake Christian causes. Pray before making decisions - to get a clearer picture of what is going on. Let God instruct you to do what is right (and that means being open to seeing or hearing His message to you).

As a pastor is speaking, he notices that the microphone has quit working. He says "Somthing is wrong with the mike." Then the congregation, unthinkingly, responds immediately "and also with you."

=>A Bit Too Much to Drink?
A guy in a bar had a few drinks. He finally decided it was enough and decided to go home. He got down off the chair and fell to the floor. He said "I guess I drank too much." He tried to stand up but couldn't so he tried crawling; after all, his house was only a couple blocks away.

Meanwhile, the bar owner called his home and talked to his wife. "Has your husband gotten home yet?" The wife answered "No - has he been drinking too muck again?" The bar owner said "Yes, apparently - he left his wheelchair here."

Relief for your back & neck when using a laptop
Laptops are ergonomically awful - the screen and keyboard aren't in the right places to keep yourself healthy - you have to lean over to work with it, and then there is the problem of heat - which can and does cause other health problems. One wonderful invention is the LapGenie - it is an adjustable desk to set your laptop into the best position it can be. It folds up for easy travel, and has many other uses. Check it out. It's made a huge difference to me and a lot of people.

"Miracles are the Coincidences Man Doesn't Give God Credit For"

Have you had a "lucky break" or nearly missed being in an accident? Have you noticed some type of "push" to do something you normally would not have? Have you had a thought or dream that seemed to tell you to take a new direction or try something different? Chances are, God was sending you a message – and it might be NO coincidence at all.

For some GREAT stories of miracles, both big and small, you need to read them at Testimonials. There is a speed skating incident, a blizzard driving experience, a series of messages about a mother who passed away. God is great!

Have you experienced a miracle today? I know I do every week in traffic (or more often) - where someone is doing something wrong (not stopping at a stop sign, not stopping at a red light, turning onto the wrong lane of a double turn lane, etc.) - and I get a "push" to stop & wait, or to slow down, or to let someone go. I can't even begin to think of how many times I have been "saved" from situations that could have been fatal, or at least could have crunched my car up.
