A Handmade Marble Mosaic Reproduction of Ford Madox Brown's "Let the Little Children Come to Me"

Time and Talents

By P. Roe, http://www.abetterlife.net

When trying to figure out tithing, and what you will or can give to your church, don't forget to list out your time and talents. The church needs all the volunteers and talent that are available - so jump in and let your church know what you can do and give.

For time - you can put in time in the office doing copies, or insert into the worship folders. You can write articles, make phone calls, run a committee. You can wash and iron the acolyte robes. There are many time-consuming tasks that need to be done daily, weekly and monthly. See what you can help with.

For talent - and yes, this wil automatically include time - what are you good at? Advertising and marketing? Writing, website development? Sewing, fixing computers, building structures? Designing and artwork? Think of your specific talents and let your church know. There are times when you can be sure your talents wil be called upon and needed.

Churches need volunteers and talents to run the organization (just like schools and clubs - volunteers make the organizations run smoother and allow money to be spent elsewhere rather than for hired help). Make sure to let your church know what you can do - and then spend time at the church doing this - it builds fellowship with others and this will be good for you. it makes you feel good doing work for God. If you let your children see you volunteering, it gives a huge message to them about their volunteering as they get older. If you aren't sure of your talents - pray to God to help figure it out - He will let you know.

Don't Overdo Christmas

By P. Roe, http://www.abetterlife.net

Christmas celebrates Jesus' birth, though it's not His birth that is the significant event. Remember, He was born in a lowly manger and his birth was witnessed by the lowest of the low in society - dirty rugged shepherds, and barn animals. Jesus took on the shepherding role for us, and is also know as "the lamb who was slain."

In any case, there isn't much in the Bible that talks about His birth - because it really wasn't significant other than being Holy in nature - it was what He did for the world that is significant. His ministry, His death on the cross and His coming back to life - these are what are significant. These are what the scriptures tell us about in great detail - the birth wasn't the important part of the story - except to let us know, in no uncertain terms, that this is the Messiah that the Old Testament prophesied about. His ancestry is fully explained to show that He is of the line of David, as foretold - and even His lineage to Adam. Matthew shows the birth story from the perspective of Joseph, Jesus' human father. Luke tells us the wonderful birth narrative that we all know. Both use the birth story to validate the fulfillment of the Messiah prophecy - not to tell us the birth is significant.

Easter is the most important Christian holiday. This is the culmination of all the prophecies, and the story of how Jesus defeats death.

Christmas isn't all about gifts and commerce - it's about a tiny baby who grew up to be the greatest Man on Earth. Remember that and give from the heart rather than from the wallet. Give to others, give to the poor, give of yourself by volunteering. Give alternative gifts - charity contributions in someone's name. Don't give "stuff" just to give stuff. More junk gets thrown away because people just don't know what to do with it, or hate it. Think of the type of man Jesus was - and honor Him by following His lead and teachings - give to others, love one another.

Our society thrives on collecting more and more stuff - causing waste, greed, selfishness, vanity - take a step away from this and give up on mere stuff - make Christmas more meaningful this year.

What Do You Know About Mormonism?

Sent to me by anonymous submission - but in talking to Mormons and researching - I found it to be largely, if not totally true.

What Do You Know About Mormonism?

What do you know about Mormonism? With Mitt Romney being in the forefront of the news, we should know more about this cult (a cult is generally considered to refer to groups that claim to be Christian but are separate from, and deviate from, the mainstream, historical, orthodox religion it claims to represent). If a Mormon became president, what values will he run the country with, and what agendas will he "sneak" in to help move Mormonism further along? The founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, wanted very much to be president himself - so there is little doubt that he had an agenda to follow to the White House - will Romney follow this agenda of Smith’s? It would not surprise me if he did - Smith wanted Mormons to control America - and they control a lot of businesses already. Beware of the push - and read on to understand more.

One cannot separate his decisions from his religion - his upbringing and religion and beliefs will dictate in his heart what his decisions will be - how can someone truly think he can make decision without bringing his sense of values into it?

Mormons believe that the Garden of Eden is somewhere near Independence, Missouri - yes, right here in the U.S. (where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers run???). They believe Jesus’ next coming will be in America, near Independence MO. This is why most of the temples and/or the statue of Moroni face toward Missouri.

Mormons believe a worthy Mormon man can be elevated to become a "god" of another planet - and to populate this planet be is to call up wives from his earth to impregnate over and over - this is the wives’ only purpose it seems. He also gets to choose if he wants to call up his own earth wife, or leave her on her own. The Mormon god of this earth did not create all of creation - he only created and lords over this world - the universe is big and various once-worthy Mormon men are gods of it all over. In Mormonism - there are an infinite number of gods - their god of this earth is only one god among many.

Mormons believe that a once-worthy Mormon man died, then became "god" of his own planet in the system of Kolob - and his first born sons were Jesus and Lucifer. There was to be a new planet, called earth, and it needed a savior to help it, so the council asked Jesus and Lucifer to come up with their plans to save earth - Jesus’ plan won. Lucifer was so angry he and his followers remained as spirits and haunt men of earth with temptations and evil.

Mormons do not believe in a Holy Birth - this god from Kolob came to earth one day and had physical sex with Mary, and implanted the spirit-baby of Jesus in her womb. From this time forward, Mormons take the New Testament in large part and attribute it to their Jesus’ story. A significant difference here is also that in mainstream Christianity, Jesus comes form the line of David, who is descended from Abraham. The Mormon Jesus hails from the line of Benjamin, not Abraham - so the Mormon Jesus is not from the lineage of David.

Mormons believe Jesus was married, in fact several times, the first time being in Cana at the wedding where he turned water into wine - they believe this wedding was the first wedding of Jesus. They maintain Jesus had many children. Remember - Jesus and his disciples were invited to the wedding (John 2) - it wasn’t Jesus’ wedding. And had Jesus had a child - surely we would have known of the child since he/she would have been revered and protected after Jesus’ death. When would Jesus ever had time for a wife? He spent his time with his disciples and relatives - never a wife was mentioned.

Mormons believe that God, Jesus and The Holy Ghost are three separate entities - they do not believe in the Holy Trinity. There is no "one God" but many gods - there is no universal God, no one creator of the universe. Read the Old Testament, read Genesis - this is contrary to what is in the Bible.

Mormons research their ancestors through-out time trying to reach Adam and Eve - in order to baptize their prior (and dead) descendants into Mormonism. Lest you fear that one day you’ll get baptized - be at ease - "the spirit has the right to refuse such baptism."

Mormons have a number of other "secret ceremonies" - to get an understanding of these, read the book called "Secret Ceremonies" - written by a former Mormon Deborah Laake. Though some aspects of these ceremonies may have changed somewhat since then, it wasn’t all that long ago and much of this still goes on.

Mormons believe the Bible has errors in it - they do not believe it in whole - only portions of it. The Book of Mormon along with the Bible (those parts that they are ok with) are what they say they go by in their faith.

Mormons believe Joseph Smith saw Jesus in America and asked to know which church he should follow - and the Mormon Jesus told him the church wasn’t right - that Smith was to bring the "right" church back. So Smith was given platelets by the angel Moroni which he had to translate with specific spectacles. Mind you, Smith was known a weaver of tall tales and a fortune seeker - he used specific tools to hunt for treasures for people - for a price. He knew how to put one over on people. You should pick up a Book of Mormon to see the outrageous stories he came up with - the great battles of which there are no artifacts, the belief that black people were dark due to non belief of this faith (they were Satan's people)- and American Indians are lighter because they came closer to believing the Mormon ways (I can’t figure out how - their religions are totally different). Black people were not admitted into the Mormon church for a long time.

Have you ever dealt with a Mormon missionary? They have a very specific script they go through, and they are versed in many different ways of dealing with typical questions and comments people have. They will tell you they are Christian (they are not Christians in the same definition as the mainstream religions - it is their own definition of the word) and that Jesus is their savior. When I was visited by a couple of missionaries, they said this to me and I said "But your Jesus and my Jesus, my savior, are not the same person." They went blank, and then one said "But there are similarities" - that was very strange and somewhat funny. I invited them to come back - they never did, and no other missionary has ever come to our door again. I guess we have an X on our house now.

The sad thing is that most Mormons do not know all of the above until later in their Mormon lives - they mostly know to maintain they are christians - and that Jesus is their savior. They pretty much worship Joseph Smith and sing hymns to and about Smith - they believe almost blindly that Smith is correct on all points.

More eye-opening insights into the Mormon faith are below - beliefs and action that may shock you, and need to be brought to light for full understanding.

Christians Beware of "The Golden Compass" - this movie was released in December 2007, starring Nicole Kidman. It is based on an atheist author's book (Philip Pullman) - he hates C.S. Lewis and "Narnia" and has written books targeted at children to show the "other side." In a 2003 interview he stated "my books are about killing God." Read more about it at Snopes.com.

=>A Bit Too Much to Drink?
A guy in a bar had a few drinks. He finally decided it was enough and decided to go home. He got down off the chair and fell to the floor. He said "I guess I drank too much." He tried to stand up but couldn't so he tried crawling; after all, his house was only a couple blocks away.

Meanwhile, the bar owner called his home and talked to his wife. "Has your husband gotten home yet?" The wife answered "No - has he been drinking too muck again?" The bar owner said "Yes, apparently - he left his wheelchair here."

"Miracles are the Coincidences Man Doesn't Give God Credit For"

Have you had a "lucky break" or nearly missed being in an accident? Have you noticed some type of "push" to do something you normally would not have? Have you had a thought or dream that seemed to tell you to take a new direction or try something different? Chances are, God was sending you a message – and it might be NO coincidence at all.

For some GREAT stories of miracles, both big and small, you need to read them at Testimonials. There is a speed skating incident, a blizzard driving experience, a series of messages about a mother who passed away. God is great!

Have you experienced a miracle today? I know I do every week in traffic (or more often) - where someone is doing something wrong (not stopping at a stop sign, not stopping at a red light, turning onto the wrong lane of a double turn lane, etc.) - and I get a "push" to stop & wait, or to slow down, or to let someone go. I can't even begin to think of how many times I have been "saved" from situations that could have been fatal, or at least could have crunched my car up.
